values is actively promoted and Christian celebration in the Catholic tradition
is valued highly.
Catholic Community
Trustees,
principal and staff are committed to providing an experience of Catholic faith
community for the students, and an awareness of the presence of God is
nurtured. Students are encouraged in a
variety of styles of personal and group prayer, using both traditional and
creative prayer. The bonds of support
within the staff and among the students are fostered by a culture of
affirmation for each individual and for co-operative effort. Students are encouraged in social
responsibility and awareness of the needs of others. There is a sense of partnership and belonging
throughout the school community. The
principal, parish priest and teachers assist the community to see the school
experience of a Catholic culture of community, prayer, liturgy, learning and
service to others, as part of the life of the parish.
Pastoral Care
The principal
and staff provide a secure environment where the dignity of each person is
respected. Students are valued as
individuals, open communication is encouraged, and supportive relationships are
fostered. There is a happy, active and
calm tone in the school and teachers encourage personal responsibility. Students are nurtured, supported and cared
for as individuals and as part of a vibrant, warm school community.
Religious Education
The principal
and Director of Religious Studies (DRS) provide faith-leadership and competent
professional management in religious education.
The DRS encourages an awareness of God as central to the life of the
school, and is committed to providing teachers with clear guidance so that
students are offered sound teaching and experiences of quality prayer. Students respond positively and experience a
well-coordinated religious education programme with quality teaching. The school communicates with parents about
religious education. Within the school
there is a focus on promoting ‘Christian values and virtues, integrating
culture with faith and faith with living’.1
Governance and Management
Trustees,
principal and staff show an appreciation of their responsibilities for the
Catholic Special Character of St Joseph’s School and a commitment to work in
